In 1984, the aftermath of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination by her Sikh bodyguards had a huge impact on the nation. 31st October explores the issues faced by a Sikh family during a time when the angered Indian population was all up against their community.
In spite of having an amazing concept, the film fails to grip you due to the lack of proper execution. While the audience may expect something touching, the film fails to be up to the mark. Many unwanted characters are also introduced, which basically add to the confusion. Speaking of the cast, Vir Das is like a silver lining in this film, with a decently convincing Punjabi accent. Soha Ali Khan’s acting is average, but her Punjabi accent is not realistic at all. The direction of the film by Shivaji Lotan Patil is also below par.

The film could have been an amazing flick, if the concept was explored in a better manner. To put it in a nutshell, 31st October is one film you can pass.
