The Forest Department Of Maharashtra Government, in an attempt to promote and create awareness about the 13 crore plantation drive to increase the green cover in Maharashtra state, joins hands with filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who’ll be using music as the medium of communication for a nation-wide reach.
Maharashtra forest department successfully undertook 2 cr. plantations and 4 cr. plantations in 2016 & 2017 respectively and over delivered by planting 2.82 cr saplings (2016) and 5.43 cr (2017) saplings.
Dr. Dhairya Roy, The head of Project office of the Minister of Finance & Planning, Forests, Government of Maharashtra said,
“We wanted to connect with the youth brigade of Maharashtra in very emotional and direct manner and hence we approached Mr. Subhash Ghai. Along with his students, he took up this challenge immediately and we are extremely thankful to Mr. Subash Ghai and Mr. Sonu Nigam. Their phenomenal energy and enthusiasm have made this project a success.”
Subhash Ghai, who is known to have an ‘ear for melodies’, wrote a poetry and eventually composed a song which is sung by Sonu Nigam. The song is titled ‘Vriksh Lagaye’.
“As our Mumbai film industry has always stood by our state and national causes, we happily accepted to support 50 cr. of tree plantation drive initiated by Govt. of Maharashtra last month. Hon. Forest Minister Mr. Mungantiwar deputed us to make short films & videos using the young talent of our film institute & industry and requested film exhibitors to screen it for this much-needed cause. I am happy that our students made music & films both of which have been appreciated all over in theatres and on television. We will continue to contribute to all causes whenever our state or nation needs us. We feel privileged and blessed to do so,” said Mr. Subhash Ghai.
Mr. Ghai also took it a step further along with his students at Whistling Woods and a video for the song. And that’s not it. In order to hike the program, he himself will be composing a fresh melody every month. All his efforts are highly appreciated Forest Department of Maharashtra.
