Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Half-Girlfriend has been in the news for as long as we can remember. It’s quite obvious that everyone’s expectation from the movie is very high. You’d expect a power-packed product with a combination like this, right? Mohit Suri + Shraddha Kapoor and Chetan Bhagat + Arjun Kapoor! Unfortunately, the trailer will leave you fully disappointed.
The story is about Madhav Jha, a Bihari boy who is in quest of winning his love back and Riya Somani, a spoilt rich city girl who has commitment issues.
Let’s get one thing out of the way – Shraddha Kapoor looks gorgeous and is the only saving grace. Her transition from a student to a street singer and everything in between will surely make you smile. The music sounds like a total winner at this point but only time will tell. Arjun looks a little too sophisticated and urban to pass off as a non-English speaking Bihari boy. Add that confused accent in place and you know that he is a wrong fit for the movie.
The trailer reminded us of Aashiqui 2 in a role reversal format, where Shraddha is playing Aditya’s role of an emotionally unavailable, and selfish girl. And Arjun plays Aarohi Shirke’s character from Aashiqui where he’s isn’t willing to give up on the messed up Riya, and walks on the path of self-destruction.
It also has a very similar Badrinath Ki Dulhania feel – a rich girl and poor boy combination. It’s just sad that Bollywood is out of nice ideas for love stories. Kya hoga cinema ka?
The film is based on Chetan Bhagats’s bestselling novel ‘The Half-Girlfriend’ and produced by Balaji Motion pictures. The movie is slated to release on 19th May 2017.
