IFFI Day 7 shed light on India’s digital future and learnings of making your next film.
Here are a few highlights of the event that one shouldn’t miss reading on if you are planning to make it big in this industry.
Karan Johar
“We used to be the mothership but we now feel like a stepchild
We are so surrounded by technology and so distracted that Cinema has taken a backseat. We’ve had an unfortunate year cinematically and theatrically. One can gauge the kind of collections a film does through their genre. We’ve lost the ability of beauty and essence of filmmaking. It’s all about numbers now. Only an Indian can teach us Indian filmmaking with an interval. No institute abroad will do this.”
Sudhanshu Vats
“We’re in the golden age of content. Much more is coming up because there’s hunger.”
Ekta Kapoor:
“Collaborations are potential possibilities. Expertise is very underrated in India, In money vs talent, talent always wins.”
They also held a Panel Discussion on how to make your next film for young producers and writers. The session was moderated by Anupama Chopra with panelists Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Vijay Singh
Ekta Kapoor:
“You need to think if the film has the capacity to draw audiences out of their house.”
Karan Johar
“One can upload their scripts on our website. You have to contemplate failure and relieved with success. Only the artists survive. Write lots of pages of what you don’t want in the film.
Siddharth Roy Kapur
“It’s a struggle but if you’re at the right place at the right time, you can make yourself noticed. There’s denial, anger, and forgiveness after failures.”
Vijay Singh
“If you’re passionate and hungry and love what you’re doing, don’t give up. Every successful film has a right budget, it has to be a sustainable business.”
Anupama Chopra
“Cinema is Saraswati and Lakshmi ka mishran.”
Alia Bhatt
“I don’t think I’ve established myself at all, I think I’ve just started. I am just about finding my space. I always decided that I won’t make a bucket list, I’ll take everything as it comes. I am a complete director’s actor.”
