Just ahead of the release of his first Hindi language film – Beyond The Clouds, cinema lovers in Mumbai were reacquainted with the beautiful world of the legendary Majid Majidi’s cinema as his 1998’s Oscar-nominated film “Children of Heaven” was screened at the iconic Matterden theatre yesterday in Mr Majidi’s presence.
Since “Beyond The Clouds” is all set for release on April 20, he has been in India to promote his film and hence was able to make time and be part of this soul-stirring discussion and engage one on one with his Indian fans.
The old world charm came together with the new world vision as the celebrated director Majid Majidi showcased the trailer of his next film Beyond The Clouds. The screening and trailer showcase was followed by a discussion where world cinema enthusiasts engaged with the legend himself about his cinematic ideology, his vision for the future, his experience making the 1998 Oscar-nominated film and of course making his first ever film in India, partnering with producers Namah Pictures and Zee Studios and giving debutants like Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan a platform to show their talents.
The highlight of the afternoon was the special felicitation of Mr Majidi with the Enlighten Award that celebrates artists who propel human stories and faith through cinema, something that has always been the core of Majidi’s films. The award was presented to him by none other that Shabana Azmi, a self-confessed Majid Majidi fan.
