Let us just say this – Anushka Sharma’s second production film, Phillauri manages to win your heart. Phillauri is a comic spooky flick, starring Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada. The story revolves around an NRI Punjabi boy, Kanan, who returns to India to marry his childhood sweetheart. But India had some other plans for Kanan. Due to some very Indian circumstances, he ends up marrying a friendly spirit, Shashi, who has been trapped in the tree for 100 years. (You’ll get all sorts of daily soap feels here, but don’t worry! It’s hilarious!)
The big fat Punjabi wedding starts facing a lot of problems because of Shashi and her story, which you see in the form of lovely flashbacks! The scenes take the audience into the pre-Independence era, where the audience comes across the eternal saga of Phillauri and Shashi. The swift changes in the film won’t even make you realize about the two different eras. Sure, the ending is a little bit predictable but by then you are rooting for the characters. Is it path-breaking in its storytelling? No. Is it a little Bollywood-ish? Yes. But it manages to bring a big smile on your face.
Anushka will make you go aww in every frame. Diljit Dosanjh steals your heart in every scene, especially when he is singing. Suraj Sharma is a total star and you want to see more of him. Mehreen Pirzada makes her presence felt and leaves a lasting impression.
We give it 3 buzzing bees.
