Salman Khan has been sentenced to a 5-year jail term and a fine of Rs. 10,000. The actor was today convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case while the other co-accused with him viz. Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Saif Ali Khan, his co-stars in Hum Sath Saath Hain, walked free.
Salman Khan had been convicted under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, which carries a maximum punishment of six years and minimum one-year jail term.
Since the jail term is above 3 years, Salman will have to appeal to the Rajasthan High Court against his conviction.
