Irrfan Khan, Kirti Kulhari, Arunoday Singh and Divya Dutta starrer Blackmail fails miserably to win our hearts with its quirky cinematic experience, poor lighting, and sloppy storyline. Apart from the tacky celluloid drama, Abhinay Deo has tried hard to showcase the miserable middle-class life of the protagonist, Dev (Irrfan Khan) who is “not really” trying hard to get some quick money to pay off his EMI. His visions strive for attention with some absurd scenes where Irrfan is shown as a pathological masturbator and his wishful imagination of killing people.
As shown in the trailer, Dev is shown blackmailing his wife and her extra-marital to gain some money, where everyone blackmailing everyone seems to be a cakewalk with zero evidence possession by the blackmailers, and yet getting paid off.
The only thing nice about the film is its characters. Divya Dutta plays the role of an alcoholic wife, which she pulls of with utter ease. Its Kirti Kulhari’s too-much innocence that leads to the entire blackmail thingie. Irrfan Khan shines brightly in this black comedy with his great acting,
If you are up for a B-grade tacky film, Blackmail is your forte.
