Batti Gul Meter Chalu is based on how electricity is still scarce in many parts, that how it affects many families on a day-to-day basis. Even though electricity is short supplied yet it costs more than their lives. The plot has a short, precise topic but the overstretching is what gets boring for the audiences.
Director Shree Narayan Singh has yet another serious topic, which many aren’t aware but has put in front of the audiences in an interesting way. Adopting the Uttarakhand dialect and the scenic beauty of the place, the local feels to the movie are strong but 170 minutes gets too much.

Shahid Kapoor is in his best avatar, taking up a role of an infamous lawyer, SK, who gets his win through tricky ways to deal with those doing illegal things. He is pretty happy with playing a baddie who earns easy money through easy ways. Shraddha Kapoor, charms us yet again just after “Stree”, with her “Kim Kardashian” style in this movie along with Divyendu Sharma, who is as amazing as the other two.
First half is pretty much all about how great the friendship is, how the entire cast have perfected the Uttarakhand dialect and the touch of a sentimental incident. Second half gets more and more ridiculous when the plot moves towards court.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu’s meter is mostly down and is a one-time watch.
