Begum Jaan’s trailer dropped two days back and has been creating waves since. For those of you who don’t know, the trailer is at 12 million views right now and is a trending topic pretty much everywhere! It promises a lot of action and drama, structured around the begum, Vidya Balan (Who is kicking everyone’s butt). Everyone manages to stand out in the trailer. And Begum Jaan is an example of what happens when an outstanding plot meets a stellar star cast, a visionary director, and a gutsy producer.
Here are five times the trailer was TOTAL badass!
When Begum Jaan was unapologetic about being a prostitute –
Tavaaif ke liye harr din ek jaisa hota hai master. Ek baar batti bujhi toh sab ek
Yes, prostitution is a profession. A service is exchanged for payment. And Begum Jaan is pretty clear about it. What stands out most in the trailer and the poster is the fact that the makers don’t shy away from using the word ‘whores’. And that in our books, in the current times, is pretty badass
When Begum Jaan was clear about what would happen to anyone who messes with her home –
So, she goes on to tell the men who’ve come to serve her a notice that she’ll partition them if they even try to make her move. Here is where Vidya Balan’s extraordinary acting hits you like a train. She is strong, bold and completely kickass with her words!
When Vidya Balan abused the hell out of everyone –
From calling men ‘murga’ with three legs to pointing a finger at their guts, Vidya Balan is swearing left right and center in the trailer and damn it’s good! Might want to go to 2:10 minutes in the trailer to just take a moment and slow clap for her.
When the trailer took a dig at menstruation and became every woman’s queen –
We won’t be doing justice to the trailer if we missed out on this one. Begum has a sharp tongue with a sharper wit! Every woman goes through this transformation, and the trailer embraces it with dignity. Begum Jaan is the first trailer to talk about menstruation and everyone is loving it!
EVERY time someone says something –
The dialogues! From one punch to another, the dialogues are the clear ‘Queens’ of the trailer (After Vidya ofcourse).
The movie releases on 14th April. You can watch the trailer here –
