It’s 2017 and India has progressed a lot as a nation, but from rape to racial discrimination, our mindsets are still the same as they were 70 years back. The recent incident of African men being beaten up proved that our thoughts haven’t changed much.
In a country that is so proud of its culture, it’s sad that we still believe ‘Fair’ is the only beautiful. In a country, where we idolise Bollywood stars, it’s sad that they still get money to promote THIS VERY SENTIMENT.
Today, Abhay Deol took to social media and shared his thoughts on Bollywood endorsing fairness in a series of posts. For starters, kudos for the sarcasm level being so damn high. In a move that not everyone will recognise as bold, Abhay took a dig at some of the famous fairness cream ads featuring everyone from Shahrukh Khan to Deepika Padukone.

After taking a dig at all of them, Deol went on to appreciate the efforts taken by Nandita Das’s #DarkIsBeautiful campaign. And also wrote a very honest post expressing his thoughts.

Honestly, in an industry where so many people shy away from expressing their true opinions, it’s a fresh change to find someone unapologetic about his views. Abhay, we don’t know whether this will change the mindset of Bollywood but even if it inspires one person to stop discrimination basis the color of someone’s skin, your job is done.
