Everyone is taken by storm i.e. the #MeToo movement that’s happening in India – especially in the Bollywood Film Industry – at the moment.
The movement in India gained momentum when Tanushree Dutta accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of harassing her on the sets of the 2009 film, Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss, as well as Vivek Agnihotri of asking her to strip while shooting a song in Chocolate (2 005). What followed thereafter were a number of (alleged) victims coming forward and sharing their #MeToo stories.
The names that came to light in this movement include Vikas Bahl, Alok Nath, Amitabh Bachchan, Gursimran Khamba, Kailash Kher, Rajat Kapoor, Sajid Khan, amongst others.
But not all that’s coming to light in the #MeToo movement are true. A lot of people are taking undue advantage by shaming leading personalities on social media. Actor Salman Khan has been accused by the Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai actor, Pooja Mishra, of sexual harassment. She has even dragged Poonam Sinha into this muddle.
Legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Subhash Ghai have not been given any respite either.
One such ‘victim’ is Marina Kuwar. She has once again shot into the limelight by accusing and slandering Bollywood personalities without any proof whatsoever. She last shot to fame when she accused Baba Ram Rahim of rape and also made a sex comedy short film on Youtube to further exploit the claim and publicity.
Such false claims are not only diluting the whole purpose of the #MeToo movement but causing a great deal of emotional and psychological damage to the person in question. Instead of making unwarranted solicitations on the Internet, approaching the judicial system can have a far-reaching effect.
In lieu of the #MeToo movement, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan have issued a statement lending their support to the movement, Tanmay Bhat and Gursimran Khamba are no longer a part of All India Bakchod (AIB), Sajid Khan has stepped down as director of Housefull4, Aamir Khan has walked out of the Gulshan Kumar biopic owing to its director being accused of sexual harassment and more.
