Surprisingly, Shraddha Kapoor starrer Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Haseena Parkar’ has received only 2 cuts and has finally been certified with U/A.
Director Apoorva Lakhia told a leading daily,
“They requested one-word ‘charas’ to be muted and one cut where a woman is shown being assaulted during riots. That’s it. I happily went with these cuts. No argument. The cuts made sense. I must say, the censor experience was quick and pleasant. We were in at 6 pm and out in a few hours. We got a ‘U/A’ with hardly any cuts.”
Talking about Shraddha’s character, Apoorva had earlier said,
“I could only give her a basic idea of what I wanted and I think she had done a great job. It (the film) is a bigger risk for her than it is for me. She plays these chocolaty lovable heroines, where she sings songs. In real life too she is a chirpy person. But Haseena doesn’t have any of these things. Also, everyone was surprised when I approached her.”
“As an actor, she never questioned, ‘Oh why am I playing a mother of four?’ That shows how confident she is of her talent. For a woman who is 30 to play a 50-year-old, where there is no song and dance what she is known for, is fantastic,”
added the director.
When asked why did he choose the controversial story of Dawood Ibrahim?
“All of us have a dark side. Why did Dawood Ibrahim do the things he did to become what he is and why didn’t you do it? That’s interesting to me,” said Lakhia.
While Shraddha Kapoor plays the lead i.e. ‘Haseena Parkar’ in the movie, her real-life brother Siddhanth will be seen as Dawood, also Haseena’s brother. ‘Sarbjit’ actor Ankur Bhatia plays Haseena’s husband Ibrahim Parkar in the movie which is slated to release on September 22.
