On the last day shooting Chhapaak, Meghna Gulzar got emotional while on sets. The director took to Instagram today to share a teary-eyed picture of herself with the team of the film. Portraying acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in Chhapaak has been challenging for Deepika Padukone. Apart from sitting for two-and-a-half hours for prosthetics every day, Deepika had prepared herself emotionally for the film as well.
In an interview with a leading daily, Chhapaak‘s director revealed all that went for Deepika to prepare for the role of Malti in the film. She said,
“There is Malti, and then there is Deepika who became Malti. Malti’s presence on screen reflects the expression in Deepika’s eyes and on her face which comes through the prosthetics. For me, Malti is Deepika and Deepika is Malti.”
Meghna added,
“I didn’t want people to watch this film with their eyes shut, the idea was not to create Laxmi’s face on Deepika but something that would be Deepika’s face had it been scarred the way Laxmi’s was.”
Meghna also revealed that the film is not entirely just based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s life but is the story that covers a larger perspective. She also mentions that change in society comes only after acceptance and awareness.
Having been shot in New Delhi and Mumbai. Chhapaak is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
