Rangoon, starring Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan, and Shahid Kapoor, has been passed with a UA certificate after the makers were asked to cut a few cuss words – because of course the board HAS to do SOMETHING. How can you let a movie pass just the way it is?
If you are thinking what the verbal cuts were, it’s – Bastard and Bakchod! They have been replaced by Rascal (for Bastard) and Bakchor (for bakchod). Interestingly, the literal sense of bastard is allowed by Central Board of Film Certification but not the exact B-Word. Apart from these cuss words, ‘chinal’ has been replaced by ‘jhooti.’ So, let’s get this straight, okay? Its okay if you call a character ‘slut’ (Vaani Kapoor’s character in Befikre) but you can’t use that exact term in Hindi. In the film ‘Brothers,’ the term ‘bastard’ was allowed without any alterations because Sidharth played Jackie Shroff’s illegitimate son in the movie.
It’s amazing how CBFC keeps changing its rules so often, isn’t it? What are you on? How strong is it that you forget the statements YOU have made and…how do we score some?
